Convento di San Francesco in Bergamo stands on the hill of Sant’Eufemia, in the Upper City, near the ancient Hay market square. Built between the late 13th and early 16th centuries, it represents a splendid example of medieval convent architecture, articulated around elegant cloisters.
Over the centuries, the complex has experienced many uses: home to Franciscan friars in the Middle Ages, it became a prison during the Napoleonic and Austrian dominations, and since the 1930s it has housed students and teachers.
The Cloister of the Arches, the Cloister of the Well and the Chapter House hold frescoes dating from the period between the 14th and 17th centuries that tell the long and fascinating history of the convent. From the panoramic terrace there is a breathtaking view of the meeting of the Brembana and Seriana Valleys.
Today the complex is home to the offices, archives and library of the Bergamo Museum of Histories, and regularly hosts temporary exhibitions devoted to the twentieth century and historical photography.
For this place of great historical and cultural value, Sebino Chiusure supplied single-leaf EI 120 fire doors in knotty pine wood with a dark finish, certified for Sa-S200 smoke tightness.
